What I Know: The sandbox page

If you aren't sure how your knowledge fits into the existing page structure, and you aren't sure what pages you might add, I recommend you come here and put down 5-7 items that reflect what you know and/or what you have learned about new new media. As the page grows, and as the week goes on, you can either copy and paste your knowledge into the appropriate pages / places, or other people in the class can move your ideas to the places they think those ideas belong. You might not agree with everything here, or everything that gets placed on the other pages; you will have to decide how to effectively edit or discuss the information you share on the wiki.

E.g. Kevin's "What I know."
1. Blogging has evolved into long form writing, a place to reflect and share well-developed thoughts.
2. Blogs need to be fed into more active microblogging platforms in order to be widely found and read: fed into Twitter, into Facebook, or other "status update" services.
3. Microblogging can act almost like an RSS feed: following other tweeters can lead you to resources or ideas relevant to you.
4. Vlogging is new media. It seems like a production and creation in a way that status updates are not. It can be shared in the social media network, through YouTube itself but more likely through Twitter and Facebook.
5. Virtual worlds are mystifying to most initial users: steep learning curve, high computing demand (internet speed, processing speed) considerably less social than other social networks. Places to share passions with strangers rather than hangout with friends.
6. Maintaining multiple services is difficult but not impossible; crafting an identity / avatar to express oneself or an organization becomes important to fulfilling one's potential.
